Bringing Kabul to Tampa – The Story of My Kilims
Three years ago, I moved from Afghanistan to Tampa, carrying with me memories, stories, and a deep connection to my heritage. Today, I’m incredibly excited to share a new chapter—bringing handmade Afghan kilim rugs from Kabul to homes in Tampa.
This isn’t just a business for me. It’s a way to connect two worlds I love: the place that shaped me, and the place that welcomed me. Through these rugs, I’m sharing not only a beautiful craft, but also a piece of my heart and heritage.
Tampa Kilim Rugs – A Kilim with a Soul
Each kilim I bring to you is a piece of living heritage. These aren’t factory-made rugs. They are handwoven, one thread at a time, by Afghan women using techniques passed down through generations. Every rug tells a story—of patience, of culture, of artistry.
It takes around 100 hours to create a typical 4x3 feet kilim. That’s 100 hours of skilled hands working a traditional loom, weaving in both beauty and resilience. The result is a masterpiece that’s durable, breathable, and truly one of a kind.
100% Natural Wool. 100% Tradition.
These kilims are made entirely from locally sourced sheep wool. Wool not only makes the rug warm in winter and cool in summer
Even the colors have a story. All dyes are organic, made from pomegranate skins, onion peels, pine bark, wheat stems, and cactus roots from Afghanistan’s rugged mountains. These natural colors age beautifully, giving the kilim even more character over time.
More Than a Rug
Whether laid out on the floor, hung on the wall, or draped over a couch, a kilim transforms any space. The bold geometric patterns and ancient motifs carry meaning—echoes of Afghan storytelling through symbols and shapes.
What makes each piece special is that no two kilims are exactly alike.
Why It Matters
By choosing one of these kilims, you’re not just decorating your home—you’re supporting Afghan women artisans and helping preserve a cultural tradition that’s centuries old. You’re welcoming a piece of Afghan history into your life.
